Bovine and Bubaline Traceability

The Brazilian Bovine and Bubaline Identification System (SISBOV) consists of a number of procedures to assess the origin, animal health and food security of the Brazilian cattle. In this way it is possible to trace the chain from the field to the slaughterhouse, offering the consumer a guarantee the beef origin.

The recent outbreak of food diseases, like the mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy or BSE) the international trade was affected and confirmed the need of improvement in traceability methods of live animals and by-products.

According to a system of laws, standards and requirements, Traceability became a requirement for beef exports, and a guarantee for the market.
