After the management of Trelew wool combing companies, producers, public and private organizations of the Chubut province and OIA, through a process that took several months, SENASA has approved the Official Standard proposed for organic certification of processed wool, tops and washed wool.
Organización Internacional Agropecuaria (OIA), the main organic certification body of sheep producers of Argentina since the decade of the'90s, participated in the development of the new standard, along with livestock producers, referring technicians and representatives of the wool industry. It is the first country official standard that was developed in the world.
The same may be submitted at the next international congress of the IWTO in Beijing.
Looking forward for international recognition the parameters taken to develop this standard were the principal private standards that actually exists: AIAB, Naturland, IFOAM, the Soil Association, among others.
Until now, organic certification covered only the primary wool production until the shearing including organic certification for the burdens of dirty wool.
During 2007 many sheep producers have begun the process of organic certification, if you are interested in starting the certification process or have any questions do not hesitate to communicate with the area of OIA Customer Service to the e-mail atencionalcliente@ oia.com.ar or by telephone at the (011) 4793-4340 / 4798-9084.
