Peru ban a series of chemical pesticides for agricultural use

They were banned because of their highly toxic element content

The products banned by the Ministry of Agriculture of Peru are those with active ingredients such as Aldicabar compounds, alachlor, Methamidophos, lead arsenate, endosulfan and paraquat. The list also includes dry powder formulations containing a combination of benomyl at or above 7%, carbofuran at or above 10% and Thiram 15% or greater and Methyl Bromide.

The Peruvian Government reported that these ingredients are highly toxic to bees, earthworms and aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates. They are extremely dangerous for the environment, because they are bioaccumulative and soluble, thus they could trigger a high degree of contamination in contact with the ground and water.

Thus, the Peruvian government gives compliance with international agreements relating to prohibited pesticides. One reason for this decision is to protect the health of those who work in agriculture, consumers and the environment. This is supported by technical and scientific analysis of environmental risk prepared by the Directorate General of Agricultural Environmental Affairs (DGAA) of the Ministry of Agriculture of Peru.
