OIA CONTINUES ITS PROCESS OF INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION AS TEXTILE CERTIFIER
From the need of consumers and the textile industry to have a law that gave strength to the Market Organic Textile GOTS arises development (Global Organic Textile Standard).
The purpose of these standards is set for the world, the requirements to guarantee organic status of textiles, from raw materials through an environmentally and socially responsible system of primary production to garment labeling in order to provide credible assurance to the consumer.
To make this possible, four organizations, OTA (Organic Trade Association USA), IVN (Germany Natural Textile Industry), Soil Association (UK Certification Body) and Joca (Japan Organic Cotton Association of Japan), worked as together to realize the main criteria in the field of organic textile processing.
Unlike what happens with the certification standards of food, where the same are established from official or government Regulations, Standards GOTS Private standards are being accepted them not only for the Textile Processing Industry, marketers, but also by large manufacturers and distributors of clothing brands such as Wall Mart, Banana Republic, Gap, H & M, Levis, etc. who are taking the GOTS standards for the manufacture of garments, for the security that represents consumers this certification as to non-use of chemicals in primary production and control of use of products not harmful to the environment and health.
OIA has applied for accreditation of GOTS Standards, successfully overcoming the audits, in order to go to provide all stakeholders in the value chain of the organic textile fiber (wool, cotton, linen, silk, etc.., ) certification for these standards.
