U.S.: Antibiotic as natural food preservative
Researchers at the University of Minnesota have discovered a class of antibiotic, lantibiotic, part of the peptide antibiotics produced by a harmless bacterium that is capable of destroying harmful bacteria in food such as salmonella, listeria or E. coli . The lantibiotic is the first patented natural preservative capable of neutralizing the bacteria that spoil food and also to preserve perishable food is easily digested and is difficult for bacteria to generate resistance to it. Scientists also point out that is non-toxic and it does not cause allergies.

Spain: biofuels produced from the residue of the beer
A group of researchers from the University of Cádiz (UCA) has developed a process for the utilization of waste from the brewing industry, which can be treated conveniently used to obtain precursors of biofuels and high added value products as functional foods and cosmetics. The next step is to launch a pilot plant near a brewery in the area.

GOTS, in multiple languages
OIA, as certifier accredited by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), announces that on the GOTS website is available the official translations of the Standard, the Manual and the Guide to Labelling in Spanish, as well as French, German and Japanese. In this way, it seeks the most widely spread of the recognized international standard of processing for textiles made from organic fibers.
