Senasa bans the trade of a toxic insecticide
In accordance with the provisions of the UN, the national body set deadlines for the purchase and sale of Endosulfan.
In two years the agrochemical stores with operations in Argentina will have to quit selling a toxic insecticide that sold US$ 22.5 million in the last agricultural year. Following the demands of United Nations, SENASA established the disappearance of Endosulfan in Argentina, mainly used for soybeans, cotton, honey and wine.
SENASA’s Regulation 551, signed by SENASA’s president (Jorge Amaya), was published on August 5th in the Official Bulletin. The policy states that starting July 1st 2012 the companies must stop importing the product, which is not produced in Argentina. It also establishes a deadline (July 1st 2013) for the sale of the stock still remaining in the companies.
