European Union imposes restrictions on the sale of honey with GM pollen
The EU Court ruled that the contaminated honey with pollen from a transgenic organism can not be marketed without prior authorization.
The decision was taken after a complaint by a German beekeeper who had to destroy his production after detecting there a transgenic corn pollen whose presence is unauthorized in honey.
Felipe Carrasco, head of the campaign against GMOs at Greenpeace, said the decision of the EU Court led to review the European and Spanish legislation on GMOs. Carrasco said: "The contamination of honey shows again that the alleged coexistence of GM crops production with non GM is impossible."
